Why 'Universal' Travel Adapters Are a Liability Nightmare

Travel adapters are a top-tier executive gift. But they are also one of the most complex products to certify. The market is flooded with cheap "Universal" adapters that support 150+ countries.
The problem? Most of them lack a Ground Pin (Earth Connection). They are 2-pin devices. This is fine for charging a phone (which is double-insulated). But if a user plugs in a laptop with a metal case, or a hairdryer, and there is a short circuit, the current has nowhere to go but through the user.
Furthermore, many cheap adapters lack a fuse or have a fuse that doesn't actually break the circuit properly. In the UK and other strict markets, selling non-grounded adapters for certain applications is actually illegal.
In practice, this is often where Global Gifting Compliance decisions start to be misjudged. You prioritize "compatibility" (more countries!) over "safety."
The Fix: Only buy adapters that are BS 8546 Certified (the gold standard for travel adapter safety). Ensure they have a replaceable fuse and, if possible, a grounding pin. If the adapter feels light and rattles, it's a safety hazard.
